Stephanie Dukat

161 South Sato Road
Ava, IL 62907

Stephanie Dukat's functional and sculptural ceramics explore playful drawn and screen-printed patterns on the bright white surface of porcelain. The white of porcelain resembles drawing paper. Its ability to show color and contrast draws me in to sketch. The patterns I used are repetitive, taking inspiration from wallpaper and act as a commentary on the nostalgic motifs and lived experiences within domestic and natural spaces. These nostalgic moments illustrated on the work's surface stem from growing up in suburban sprawl and my current surroundings living in a rural Ava.

Stephanie was born and raised in Buffalo, New York, where she attended Buffalo State College for Art Education and Ceramic Design, graduating in 2010. In 2013, she moved to Carbondale, IL to attend graduate school at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She graduated with an MFA in Ceramics in May 2016.

Stephanie is the Craft Shop Coordinator at Southern Illinois University in the Student Center, where she teaches various adult and children workshops in clay, fibers, printmaking, and more.

Stephanie will be at her home studio in Ava with Kari Woolsey.

2017- 2024, she was at the studio of Harris Deller.
